RECOVERY MANAGEMENT AND DATA PROTECTION PIONEER ASEMPRA NAMES FORMER MCDATA SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT GARY GYSIN AS CEO
Also, elects former Symantec CEO Gordon Eubanks to the Board of Directors and Appoints former Maxtor Vice President Eric Herzog as Vice President of Marketing

Sunnyvale, Calif. (January 8, 2007) - Asempra Technologies, a leading provider of recovery management and data protection solutions for Windows-based applications, announced today that Gary Gysin, an accomplished software, network, and storage industry veteran, has joined Asempra as president and chief executive officer. In addition to Gysin's appointment as CEO, Asempra also announced that former Symantec CEO Gordon Eubanks has joined as board member; and former Maxtor marketing Vice President Eric Herzog has joined as vice president of marketing.

Asempra's industry-recognized Business Continuity Server™ family of recovery management and data protection solutions provide mid-market organizations with real-time, instantaneous recovery of applications and data for Microsoft Exchange, SQL Server and Windows file server environments. The company has received accolades for its ability to provide customers unprecedented levels of data and application availability, data reliability, and granular recovery, while significantly reducing both infrastructure and operational costs.

"Conventional recovery management products are too complex, too expensive and too unreliable for today's midrange market requirements," said Gary Gysin, CEO. "Asempra is changing the data protection and recovery paradigm. Our recovery management solutions enable instantaneous, uncorrupted, and granular recovery of any Windows-based application and data in minutes, from any location, at any point-in-time. Asempra substantially reduces the costs, management complexity, and tools required for today's nonstop data protection and disaster recovery needs."

IDC, one of the leading market research companies in the storage marketplace, has forecasted that the disk-based data protection market will grow from $8 billion in user IT spending in 2006 to over $50 billion in software and hardware purchases through 2010. Fueled by increasing regulatory compliance, business continuity, and fast recovery requirements, IDC expects the disk-based data protection market to grow at a rate two to three times faster than the overall storage market.

"The requirements for data protection today go way beyond just backup," said Heidi Biggar, analyst at the Enterprise Strategy Group. "Organizations need to be able to restore data quickly, reliably, and completely when they need to -- to avoid costly downtime, additional IT expense, and unusable data. Asempra's Business Continuity Server transforms the way mid-market companies approach data protection, enabling them to meet -- and even exceed -- SLAs for the protection and recovery of Windows-based applications, files, and volumes. The ROI of this product is potentially huge, calculated from the very first recovery."

Gary Gysin Brings Asempra Track Record of Accomplishment

Gary Gysin joins Asempra with 25 years of accomplished industry experience in both early stage and established technology companies. Prior to Asempra, Gysin was SVP of Sales and Service at McData, where he grew annual revenue from a run rate of $400 million to over $700 million. Prior to his Sales and Service role at McData, Gysin served as vice president and GM of McData's software group, where he signed six major storage OEMs for McData's modular storage software offerings. Prior to McData, Gysin served two years at Volera (a majority owned subsidiary of Novell), most recently as senior vice president of products. Prior to Volera, Gysin served five years as president and CEO of PGSoft, which was acquired by Novell in 2000. Gysin's other executive experience includes vice president of marketing and sales at Crosswise, vice president of sales and support at WorldTalk, and vice president of sales at Touch Communications. Gysin holds a Bachelor of Arts in economics from University of California, Santa Cruz.

"Gary Gysin is ideally qualified to take the reigns at Asempra," said Steve Krausz, member of the board of directors at Asempra and general partner at U.S. Venture Partners. "He brings Asempra strong experience in software, networking, and storage sales, marketing, and product development. His track record of building companies into leadership positions in the market speaks for itself."

Gysin's selection resulted from a nationwide search led by Mel Connet, Managing Partner of executive search firm Connet & Company LLC, Menlo Park, CA.

Gordon Eubanks and Eric Herzog Join Asempra

"I'm pleased to welcome Gordon Eubanks and Eric Herzog to the Asempra team," said Gary Gysin. "Both of these men bring the knowledge, passion and industry experience necessary to establish Asempra as the leader in real-time data protection and recovery management."

Software industry pioneer Gordon Eubanks has been elected to Asempra's board of directors. Eubanks most recently served as the CEO of web security startup Oblix, which was acquired by Oracle in 2005. Between 1985 and 1999, Eubanks served as CEO of Symantec, where he grew the company into one of the world's largest software companies. In addition to Asempra, Eubanks also serves on the board of directors for Concur Technologies (NASDAQ: CNQR) and Oakley Networks.

Eric Herzog has been named to the position of vice president of marketing. Herzog has held vice president of marketing roles at several Fortune 500 storage companies - including IBM's Storage Technology Division and Maxtor (recently acquired by Seagate Technology) - as well as at several successful storage start-ups including ARIO Data (recently acquired by Xyratex), Topio (recently acquired by Network Appliance), and Streamlogic.
